6 Ways AI Transforms How We Develop Software

AI is transforming all business functions, and software development is no exception. Not only can machine learning techniques be used to accelerate the traditional software development lifecycle (SDLC), they present a completely new paradigm for inventing technology.
Traditionally, developing a computer program requires you to specify in advance exactly what you want the system to do and then hand engineer all of the features of your technology. Machine Learning fundamentally changes the software development paradigm.

CloudQuant Thoughts :  If you observe how most industrial processes use humans to guide smart and dumb machinery you see a pattern that will be replicated in the software development environment. Machines take the easy, repetitive (dangerous) work first. Then humans gradually step away as machines abilities increase to fill out the whole role.

Artificial Insurance – How Machine Learning is Transforming Underwriting

Over the last decade, several sectors of the economy adopted and implemented digital technologies to improve business connections and maximize output and efficiency. However, the insurance industry is one of the staidest sectors of the economy lagged behind in the global shift to digital technology. As such, the industry was one of the last sectors to go through a digital transformation.
Nevertheless, with the integration of technologies like artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and machine learning from distribution to claims to underwriting, the age of digital insurance is here.

CloudQuant Thoughts : AI is sure to impact Insurance companies bottom lines as we are driven about in vehicles that reduce crashes to a fraction of a percent. It is interesting to see a very conservative slow-moving industry realize that AI and ML can be a revolutionary assistant in their environment.

Reuters is Using AI to Spot Patterns and Redefine Journalism

Reuters is rolling out an AI tool that will help journalists speed up their reporting process
The tool will trawl through massive data sets to spot any emerging patterns
It will give the journalist a quick summary of the news to help decide if the story is worth pursuing
2018-03-12 11:02:13+05:30
CloudQuant Thoughts : Reuters have always been at the cutting edge, remember their business was born out of carrier pigeons speeding financial news from Paris to Berlin to beat the trains. So it comes as no surprise that they would be using AI to spot news trends.

Machine Learning is Helping Researchers Create Lifelike Animal Simulations

machine learning algorithm can simulate the way animals walk
Developed by researchers at the University of Manchester, it maps the movement incredibly accurately
The algorithm uses the movement of the animal to generate a skeleton model and skin outline.

CloudQuant Thoughts: This reminds us of a similar simulation, this one is a lot of fun!

and another oldie but goodie that popper back up on twitter this week..

Will Amazon Pitch Financial Advice To Millennials?

“We all know Amazon has the most intuitive AI (artificial intelligence) and machine learning because we’ve all been served up products as a result. Now they are working to leverage that vast data and tools as they create a financial platform,” said Advicent COO Tony Stich.
Stich predicts that Amazon, a company with a $700 billion market cap, will offer three levels of investment accounts to millennials and interested customers:  It could offer do-it-yourself accounts and robo-advisory accounts; and for those who want a personal advisor, Amazon could create and refer customers to a state-by-state network of select investment professionals.

CloudQuant Thoughts : Amazon seems to be winning in the AI to Consumers competition.. Banking, Finance and Health Care are all definitely in their targets.

HEKA’s Artificial Intelligence Mattress will help you Sleep Better

The AI mattress collects data about your sleep positions and patterns
It adapts in real time to your body shape, adjusts the height and firmness
Tested on 362 users with extremely impressive results
2018-03-10 13:32:47+05:30
CloudQuant Thoughts : We spend between 1/4 and 1/3 of our lives sleeping. It makes sense to spend research dollars and your own hard earned money on improving that sleep.

Technology Has Unsettled Financial Markets Permanently

Is technology set to completely unsettle the stock market? It is certainly no secret that over the past few years algorithms, artificial intelligence, robos, etc have been responsible for more and more of the trading in the stock market.
It is now estimated that only 10% of trading is done by humans.
So, does ANYONE really understand how those algos work? Now, throw in ETF’s and how they are structured. Does ANYONE actually know what’s in all those proprietary structured ETF’s?
2018-03-08 16:46:29-04:00
CloudQuant Thoughts : The ripple effects from algo’s is certainly driving a lot of the market at the moment and when that is mixed with ETFs and other derivatives and it starts to become very difficult to know when the dog is wagging the tail and when the tail is wagging the dog. As always when writing algo’s one must test against known worst-case scenarios, but they are called black swans for a reason.

Commit Assistant, an AI from Ubisoft, can now Predict Errors in the Code Before you Make Them

Artificial Intelligence continues its march deep into the gaming territory. Now, there’s a new application of AI – predicting bugs in a game’s code before the developer even makes the error.
The French gaming company Ubisoft has released “Commit Assistant”, an AI to help speed up the development process of games by reducing (and in some cases eliminating) the number of errors in the script.

ColoudQuant Thoughts : I predicted it last week and it is already here!!!
